Brooklyn Boys Perform at Inaugural NPSL Combine

FT. LAUDERDALE, FL - As the inaugural NPSL combine concluded today we had a chance to speak with Aris Alpian, who is the Director of NPSL Operations for the Brooklyn Italians on his thoughts of how the Combine went and how the club's players fared.

"I think the NPSL put its stamp on American Soccer this weekend," said Alpian, who also serves as the Regional Representative for the Northeast Region on the Combine Committee.

When asked about the Brooklyn Italians players it was hard not to mention Salvatore Barone first. "Obviously, him scoring the only two goals for the Northeast and converting a penalty in the shoot out of the consolation game was a great showing." His collegiate teammate at St. Francis College, Riccardo Milano, was also impressive playing both his usual center back and also playing at right back. "Riccardo displayed what we already know in Brooklyn, that whatever defensive role you put him in he will excel."

Diego Zuniga, who was a first team all conference this past season at Adelphi University, exhibited his speed and attacking skills. "I think Diego is one of the best players in the NPSL taking people on 1v1, he attacks with great pace."

Martin Williams, who Alpian feels was the MVP of the Northeast, also put in a great performance. "Martin plays a holding midfield role deserving of a professional. He makes it look easy and rarely leaves his feet, he just knows where the ball is going to be."

The players represented the Brooklyn Italians Soccer Club with great pride. "I'm very proud of the boys and to be part of this iconic club that I grew up admiring."
