Clinic with the LIU Blackbirds
BROOKLYN, NY - Friday 12th April Brooklyn Italians U13 and U14 players had a great insight into what is was like to be a NCAA Division 1 athlete, as the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds came to put on a clinic at Calvert Vaux Park. Ran by the coaching staff at LIU Brooklyn, Nate Bell and Brett Axelrodd (who also works as the Brooklyn Italians goalkeeper coach), our U13 and U14 travel players mixed with a large number of LIU players for a training session. The session was designed to give our players a taste of what it takes to be a NCAA Division 1 soccer player, and what sort of training they can expect once they get there.
"I think it was a fantastic learning experience for our younger players, and I'm really thankful to Nate and Brett for putting on such a great event. It was a real eye opener for some of our kids and hopefully it will serve as a measurement of where they are, and what they need to do, to reach the next level. We have a good relationship with the guys at LIU, along with a lot of other schools in the area and across the country, so hopefully this sort of event will stand our players in good stead for the future. The aim of the club is to help all of our players find the right college or university where they can get a great education and play at the level that is right for them. Naturally we hope that is as high as possible, so it's up to us to make sure we are producing good players and good people who will be assets to the universities and colleges they go on to represent."
